Dog Treatment Bills
September 16, 2011
It can be expensive to own a dog. It’s not as cheap as a hamster or gerbil – especially if you feed your dog well and take good care of them. Money is needed for care - even when things are going well.
What about when your dog gets sick? Dog treatment bills can be really expensive! It might cost less if you get the Right Dog
Getting a dog itself doesn’t cost very much. Very often, getting your dog can be free.
But that’s not to be taken to be a sign of how things will go in the future. It’s kind of like getting an iPhone or a printer. Getting the product is so cheap as to almost be free; the costs trickle in as you use the product though. With many kinds of dog breeds, there are genetic weaknesses they have that make them vulnerable to many special kinds of diseases. If you have a large dog for instance, often, you can expect to have to deal with veterinarian bills for hip dysplasia and other orthopedic problems.
Dogs with squashed snouts can often have respiratory problems in the summer. And depending on how your dog has been bred, it could be quite prone to cancers as well. Dog treatment doesn’t come cheap; in many cases, it can take as much as it does for a human.
A good way to keep yourself on budget then would be to actually choose a dog to adopt that doesn’t belong to a high maintenance breed. Let’s look at a few of the dog breeds that tend to get the most expensive dog treatment bills.
If you want to avoid expensive dog treatment bills, you absolutely want to stay away from that all-American favorite, the American bulldog. Compared to dogs like the toy poodle that tend to have the fewest health problems, the American bulldog can have very unhappy life – even if they live very long. They have heart problems and respiratory problems, frequent urinary tract infections and skin disease problems. In general, you can expect to spend about $2500 every year on vet bills when you make a choice in such a dog.
People choose with their hearts when they go for a breed of dog to adopt. Consider the Swiss Bernese Mountain Dog breed. These are very beautiful black, brown and white dogs – and people just lose their hearts to them. The same as Rottweilers, these dogs have a dismal health outlook. They get pancreatitis, nosebleeds, cancer, orthopedic problems – you can easily spend $5000 every year on dog treatment bills if you keep such a dog.
The Samoyed, the Russian breed, can be another kind of dog that twangs people’s heartstrings. These fluffy white dogs can be hard to resist when you go in trying to pick a dog. But these dogs don’t stay healthy for very long; a disease called hereditary glomerulopathy often attacks these dogs and it can lead to kidney failure. But even if your Samoyed manages to give the slip to this disease, it still doesn’t have it made.
Eye ulcers, lymphoma, tumors – you’ll find that you spend at least $3000 every year that you own this dog.
Be sensible when your dog and hope for the best! But – remember – there is no telling what fate will bring you and your doggie! They could end up with a disease or condition that will cost a olot of money to keep under control.
Sometimes you can keep your pet healthier and avoid needing treatment by feeding them organic dog foods.
